Inauguration of the Ecomuseum of Bamboo

The Rhone-Alps region, through its Europe department, International Relations and Cooperation, will inaugurate the Ecomuseum of Bamboo during “La Semaine Française”.

In Vietnam, the bamboos are very important for the people and are presented in almost all areas in their lives: construction, cooking, music. Currently, some species are in danger of extinction. Their protection and conservation become necessary and present a scientific interest of international level.

To correct these problems, the Rhone-Alps region approved the project of decentralized cooperation brought by the Pilat Nature Park with the aim of creating an ecomuseum and a conservatory dedicated to bamboos (project born under a multiparty convention associating the Natural Sciences University of Ho Chi Minh City, the Binh Duong province and the Rhone-Alps region).

This project plans the construction of a center of almost 700m² in the village of Phu An at 40km of Ho Chi Minh City. Implementation of a sustainable development approach, it will inform the public about the bamboos, their biology and their uses, will form the students and the farmers and will allow the creation of a national repository as well as a reserve that can be used by researchers.
